I have been waiting a while, to say the least, for a performance to reveal itself like it did yesterday at the Copper Creek Triathlon. As I’ve mentioned before, up until the Hy-Vee Triathlon last year, I seemed to have plateaued with my riding. I was stuck with an average of 21.5mph for the bike and I couldn’t seem to do anything about it. I turned to local rockstar cyclist, Doug Reichardt, with the question …
Kevin: “How the heck can I get fast on the bike?”
Doug replied: “How fast do you want to go?”
Kevin: “It sure would be nice to throw down a 24mph average for a triathlon someday!”
Doug said: “You can do this, but it’s going to hurt!”
Kevin: “When do I start and what is my first dose?”
Fast forward from July 2008 to yesterday and I can honestly see the results! 8th fastest bike split out of 470 riders! 23.7mph average over 20K! Woot!
Definitely more work lies ahead, but talk about a major boost in confidence and motivation!
